Milton Cheng has been chair of Baker McKenzie during a period of major firsts for the global law giant.

Elected to a four-year term in 2019, and subsequently re-elected to serve until 2026, Cheng is the first Singaporean to hold the chair position in the firm’s 70-plus-year history. He helped Baker McKenzie’s annual revenue break the $3 billion mark for the first time in 2021, and has led on several pioneering real estate investment trust (REIT) deals in Hong Kong and China.

He was previously managing partner of Baker McKenzie’s Hong Kong office, and was the first chief executive to oversee the firm’s offices in mainland China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Myanmar. In addition to his REIT expertise, Cheng has considerable experience in M&A, financial services regulation, corporate finance and corporate restructurings.
