A former Spear’s Award nominee, Zoë Bloom employs an energetic approach to her practice. After setting up her own firm, BloomBudd, the enterprising lawyer merged with Alexiou Fisher Philipps to create a new family law ‘super boutique’ under the banner AFP Bloom.

Speaking to Spear’s, Bloom conceded it is ‘pretty rare’ for two boutique firms to come together. ‘It’s tied to the fact that we’re all a bit mad. Founders like to do things their own way,’ she said. ‘So they kind of break away to do it themselves. And so merging two firms from that background is quite unusual.’

Her caseload comprises some of the most complex issues that separating families face, and she is not afraid to take on clients who are already in the middle of proceedings, driving them through to settlement.

‘I am often instructed by clients who are fed up with their cases drifting along aimlessly with no strategy,’ she says. ‘We call it “gentleman’s drift”, and I see it far too often – particularly from clients who have previously instructed some of the more traditional practices.’
