Spear’s Review
With 35 years in banking under his belt, Michael Vlahovic came to London in 2017 to lead Swiss international EFG Private Bank’s UK offering. Today, the head of private banking can speak with pride of consistent growth in new assets under management.
In addition to overseeing the team of more than 100, Vlahovic continues to lead from the front, serving key customers, typically business owners, wealthy families, family offices and trusts. He believes the bank’s strong ‘values-based corporate culture’ is the thing that attracts high-quality advisers.
This, he says, ensures that clients are provided with high-quality private banking and wealth management services, ‘built on the strong foundations of continuity and sustainability – the very essence of a genuine partnership’. Before moving to EFG, Vlahovic had served for two years in Zurich as managing director and global coordinator of the bank’s Russia/CIS team.
Adviser Profile
Michael Vlahovic joined EFG International in Zurich as Managing Director and Global Coordinator of the Russia/CIS team in 2015. In July 2017, Michael was promoted and joined EFG Private Bank, based in the UK, as Head of Private Banking, looking after a combined total of over 100 Client Relationship Officers and their assistants, plus the Front Office functions.
Since 2017, Michael has overseen significant NNA growth in the UK Private Bank, whilst strengthening and widening the geographical reach of his banking teams at the same time. Michael has worked in the Wealth Management and Private Banking space for over 35 years, having previously held senior roles at Coutts & Co Ltd and Credit Suisse amongst others.
Michael believes that EFG’s success is in part due to the company culture which also attracts talented bankers to the fold. ‘One of the main reasons people join EFG is because of our strong, values-based corporate culture,’ the experienced banker says. ‘To thrive here, you must be hands-on, accountable, partnership-orientated, solutions-driven and passionate about what you do. Our values are so important to us that they form part of our annual performance review. What colleagues do and how they do it are of paramount importance to me, and it is something I try to instil in every team member here.’
EFG Private Bank is part of EFG International, a top 10 Swiss private banking group, with over 3,100 employees and operating in over 40 locations worldwide. Based in London, with a branch in Jersey, EFG Private Bank services cater towards the domestic and international High Net Worth market, covering banking and credit, financial planning, investment management and offshore trusts. EFG’s specialism is generally looking after high net worth clients with a diverse set of banking, investment and lending needs with assets of £2 million and above.
