Matthew Newton is the director of crisis response at security and investigations firm Valkyrie, a position he took on in 2023 after spending more than 10 years in privacy, reputation and security at Schillings.

He supports high-profile individuals, corporates and governments with their complex security concerns, providing services that include litigation support, due diligence, investigations and threat assessments. Many clients come to him in ‘reactive mode’, he tells Spear’s, seeking help in response to extortion, cyber threats or surveillance concerns.

Indeed, Newton specialises in both physical and digital risk mitigation, emphasising that ‘you can’t operate in the physical space without thinking about the digital space. If you don’t combine them, it’s like leaving the front door open.’
