Suzanne Syme, a barrister at Harcourt Chambers, prides herself on providing ‘pragmatic advice’ to her clients. ‘We are caught up in this whirlwind of emotions [during a case], and someone has to keep their feet on the ground,’ she says.

Syme deals primarily with matrimonial finance cases, including claims under Schedule 1 of the Children’s Act. These often involve offshore trusts and the splitting of assets and holdings as a result of separation and divorce. She also specialises in pension provision on divorce, and the investigation and analysis that comes along with it. 

Many of Syme’s clients are HNW individuals, including celebrities who have public profiles. ‘I very much make myself available and ensure there isn’t a barrier to making contact,’ Syme says. ‘Clients know that I’ll respond in a structured way’, which puts their minds at ease and makes life easier for her solicitor counterparts.
