Andrew Adie, the head of SEC Newgate UK’s corporate strategy and impact team, has more than two decades of experience in crisis management. ‘We advise businesses and business owners on how to promote and protect their reputations,’ he explains. Simply put, his team ‘does everything beyond the balance sheet’. Adie also leads the firm’s purpose and sustainability team.

During his career he has developed a number of award-winning communications programmes for a variety of different brands, with Adie drawing on his background as a journalist. ‘It helps me with storytelling,’ he tells Spear’s. ‘Most comms professionals have a good handle on how to handle scrutiny from journalists, but it’s about being able to spot and tell a story in a way that’s simple.’ 

It’s a skill that Adie’s clients appreciate, especially as they move towards telling their stories in ways that are authentic and ‘deliver real impact beyond dressing the shop window’.
