‘As a senior client partner, I take care of a full book [of clients] myself,’ says Standard Chartered Private Bank’s Edena Chan, whose clients come predominantly from south-east Asia. Service and communication are central components to her approach when juggling this full book. ‘I believe in face-to-face meetings,’ she tells Spear’s. ‘A meeting over dinner or lunch is still very important for a private banker’s relationships.’ 

A fresh focus for Chan is establishing new client relationships to grow the bank’s AuM. This includes growth that is intrinsically linked to the tech market. ‘We seem to be hitting a new norm. If you look at the market, the counters that have moved to the S&P are the technology counters,’ she says.
