Ben Pentreath
Spear’s Review
Ben Pentreath, architectural and interior designer to the royal family, has proved his worth not just with his skill in master planning and urban development, but also with his eye for the interiors of unique private homes.
Pentreath specialises in building, remodelling and renovating Georgian farmhouses and country manors, beautifully finishing them in a Classical style. The firm has become especially well regarded for its skill in reinstating traditional elements that may have been removed from homes over the years, bringing them back to their original beauty. However, he’s no stranger to an element of fun: in the Pig on the Beach Hotel in Studland, his extension to the main house and two ‘pepper pot’ buildings were wittily designed in the cottage orné vernacular.
In 2023, Pentreath was awarded the Richard H. Driehaus Prize in the United States. The award is given to an architect whose work reflects ‘the highest ideals of Traditional and Classical architecture in contemporary society, and creates a positive cultural, environmental and artistic impact’.
