Head of the family department at Freemans Solicitors, Nina Hansen has spent more than three decades in children law, resolving issues relating to child abduction, relocation, care proceedings and cases involving the most serious allegations. Her clients include celebrities and international UHNWs across Europe and the US, and many arrive by the same route: via lawyers with intractable cases who decide, as she says: ‘I’ll send it to Nina.’

Asked what clients in crisis need most, Hansen’s answer is: ‘calmness’.

Much of her recent work has involved alienating behaviours – allegations that one parent has turned a child against the other parent. She resists the assumption that there’s a one-size-fits-all solution. ‘Quite often these cases really need to be pulled apart to see what’s really happening’.

Every case is different, she tells Spear’s, and the job is acting on the actual circumstances rather than assumed ones.
