Spear’s Review

A specialist in helping international UHNWs and high-profile clients, including celebrities and aristocrats, Nina Hansen has over 30 years’ experience in family law.

With clients throughout Europe and the US, the Freemans Solicitors partner and head of the firm’s family department has won renown as a top lawyer in cases involving children, a result of her role in numerous high-profile cases, including ones at the Supreme Court involving habitual residence.

The UK Supreme Court case of Re B (A child), which took place in 2016, ‘not only established when and how a child lost their habitual residence, but also was the first Supreme Court case involving a same-sex couple’, Hansen says. ‘The highlight for me was when my client was reunited with her daughter!’

Adviser Profile

Nina Hansen is head of the Family Department at Freemans Solicitors. Her focus is on complex children’s law matters, often with an international element. Hansen also deals with complex care and wardship proceedings. Recently she represented a father in a tricky wardship case with multi-generational allegations and multi-jurisdictional proceedings.

She also successfully represented an anxious father, whose child was the subject of a second set of relocation proceedings, with a history of allegations.

Hansen is often referred cases from other lawyers, particularly when the local authority gets involved. She recently represented a HNW mother, with two small children, in proceedings with allegations of serious mental health issues and physical abuse. After helping her get the right support and then successfully dealing with the allegations, the children are now back home.
