Sonny Patel

Spear’s Review

Described as a ‘solutions-driven negotiator’, Sonny Patel, partner and head of the Singapore office at specialist family law firm Expatriate Law, works on a range of matters relating to HNW divorces, including negotiating and drafting prenuptial agreements, recognition of foreign marriages or divorces, and the relocation of children across international borders.

He qualified with his LPC in 2004 and worked with several prominent London-based firms such as Ronald Fletcher Baker, Fisher Meredith and Seddons. He soon developed an interest in cross-border family law and joined the team at Expatriate Law, where he has curated a vast pool of clients with connections to the UK, Middle East, Luxembourg, Africa and the US.

Successful cases include a Hague Convention summary return, which reunited a father with his child, and obtaining an international injunction that would protect his client from their ex-partner’s harassment.

Adviser Profile

Sonny specialises in English family law for international families. He represents British expatriates based in Singapore, across Asia and beyond. Sonny qualified in 2006. Before joining Expatriate Law, Sonny practiced in well-regarded central London law firms. Sonny’s success in contested jurisdiction cases and his interest in cross-border family law led to him joining Expatriate Law to focus on international work.

Sonny was initially based in Expatriate Law’s UAE office before setting up the Singapore office of Expatriate Law in 2019. Sonny is an assertive yet solutions-focused negotiator. He is determined to lead his clients through the legal process as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible.
