Christine Cairns is a private client tax adviser and specialist in alternative investment funds for PwC. 

‘Generally, you'll find fund specialists or private client specialists and not many crossovers of both,’ she says.

Cairns’ alternatives knowledge is particularly valued by clients whose wealth originates from hedge funds and private equity. She explains that as her clients have exited the industry, her role has evolved to helping them reassess their tax obligations and structure their wealth, including setting up family offices and creating their own family funds and investment offices.

‘It’s all very personal to them,’ Cairns tells Spear’s. ‘Funds invest in third-party money, but these clients are actually investing their own money.’
