Spear’s Review

‘For our family office clients, the average investable assets is around about $750 million. It’s very much institutional-size capital, and with that, they’re looking for institutional-quality solutions,’ Victoria Matthews, BlackRock managing director and head of UK family offices, tells Spear’s.

‘Most of our family office and endowment clients are looking at multigenerational time horizons. And with that, they see much more opportunity across private markets.’

For Matthews, it’s BlackRock’s broad offering that serves as a market differentiator, as well as its experience in connecting UHNWs to private market opportunities. This includes ‘alternative alternatives’ – novel opportunities for investment across emerging asset classes such as music royalties and litigation financing. ‘There are very few players that have the scale of resources to be able to do all of that,’ she says.
