Spear’s Review
Sarah Melvin of BlackRock has come full circle: from her start in the UK, she moved to the US to become chief of staff to chairman and CEO Larry Fink, and then head of the institutional client business for the US and Canada before returning to the UK in 2019.
As managing director and head of the firm’s UK and European client business, Melvin sets the firm’s strategy and is tasked with delivering the full range of BlackRock products and services to clients.
In 2025, she was among 20 executives appointed to a newly formalised global executive committee – a senior management council established as part of a broader effort to reshape the firm’s top leadership – created by Fink and company president Rob Kapito. Melvin will also play a key role in the company’s ambitious five-year expansion plan; she has already announced £500 million worth of investment in UK data centres and the opening of an office in Edinburgh.
