Mike Delaney is clinical director at Delamere, a modern and well-appointed retreat in the Cheshire countryside that specialises in addiction treatment for senior executives and business owners.

‘It’s geared for high-powered executives – people who are not used to being told what to do and don’t like being told what to do,’ Delaney says. ‘We can fit it in around your schedule. A lot of rehabs don’t allow laptops or computers, but we have international clients – people who have to get up at 3am to work.’

The centre deals with all types of addiction and dependency problems, but Delaney explains that alcohol is often a common factor. ‘Alcohol is usually at the root of it. Pretty much everybody starts with alcohol, and then moves on to whatever else they can find.’
