Spear’s Review

Founded in 2008 in partnership with its prestigious UK sister school, Haileybury Almaty brings the traditions of British independent education to Kazakhstan. The school follows the English curriculum, culminating in IGCSE and A-Level qualifications, and maintains close links with Haileybury UK through shared values, staff collaboration and a commitment to developing well-rounded pupils.

In recent years, the school has undergone a significant transformation, strengthening its academic performance, expanding co-curricular opportunities and building a vibrant international community. Today, Haileybury Almaty consistently ranks among the top A-Level schools globally outside the UK, with graduates progressing to leading universities including Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard and MIT.

Academics 

In 2025:

  • 64 per cent of IGCSE results were grades 7-9
  • 67 per cent of A-Level results were A* or A

Head teacher

Simon Mills was appointed headmaster of Haileybury in 2020 following headships at two Scottish schools: Robert Gordon's College and Lomond School.  

University and college destinations

According to the school, in 2025, 6 per cent of the graduating class accepted places at Oxford or Cambridge, and 5 per cent continued their studies at Ivy League schools

Admissions

The school’s admissions process includes an application form, entrance assessment and interview with the head teacher. Applicants are asked to submit recent school reports and a reference.
