Spear’s Review

Brighton College Vietnampart of the prestigious Brighton College network of schools, teaches the UK curriculum – with students working towards IGCSEs and the IB – while incorporating elements of Vietnamese culture.

The school, which opened its Sixth Form in 2025, is particularly committed to supporting students as they begin to consider future university pathways: pupils receive one-to-one tailored support while applying to top universities, and Ivy League and Russell Group university representatives visit the college. The school also regularly hosts events focused on preparing applications for Oxbridge, and arranges trips to the UK to visit Brighton College UK and universities such as Cambridge and Imperial College London.

Outside the classroom, pupils can enjoy a wide range of co-curricular activities, and facilities that include pickleball courts, a state-of-the-art theatre, and music and dance studios.

The school also has a dedicated director of futures, and pupils can connect with the Brighton College alumni network, Brighton College Connect, in Year 13.

School Profile

Brighton College Vietnam offers a British education in Hanoi for boys and girls aged 3 to 18, underpinned by a culture of kindness, curiosity and quiet confidence. As part of the Brighton College family, and drawing on nearly 200 years of educational heritage, the college combines high academic expectations with a clear commitment to developing kind, thoughtful and socially responsible young people.

Academic life is purposeful and intellectually ambitious. From the earliest years, pupils are encouraged to think for themselves, ask questions and take pride in their work. Lessons are lively, well-structured and rooted in strong subject knowledge. As pupils move through the school, this foundation develops into real academic independence, culminating in IGCSE and the IBDP. The aim is not only strong results, but young people who can think clearly, express themselves with confidence and approach new challenges with assurance.

Pastoral care is taken seriously and is reflected in everyday school life. The house system plays a central role, ensuring that every pupil is known well and supported to do their best. There is a strong emphasis on mutual respect, on doing the right thing and on looking out for others. Pupils are encouraged to develop empathy, integrity and a sense of responsibility within the school and beyond.

Co-curricular life is a core part of the college experience. All pupils take part in a range of activities, including sport, music, drama, debate, service and societies. These are an integral part of Brighton education, helping pupils develop interests, work collaboratively and build confidence beyond the classroom.

Brighton College Vietnam offers a balanced and well-rounded education, preparing pupils not only for examination success, but to be kind, principled and confident young people, ready to make a positive contribution in a global and fast-changing world.

Head teacher

Carly Barber joined Brighton College Vietnam in early 2025. With over two decades of experience in UK and international schools, she previously served as the head of the senior school at Brighton College Bangkok.

University and college destinations

According to the school, around one-third of Sixth Form applicants are offered places at Oxbridge every year, and students have also gone on to study at Ivy League schools and Russell Group universities.

Admissions

Depending on age of entry, pupils undertake appropriate cognitive testing, an English assessment and then are invited for an interview with a member of the college leadership Team. The school also interviews parents to ascertain expectations and alignment to the school ethos.
