Spear’s Review
Only 16km from the centre of Athens, Campion School’s state-of-the art facilities include a football pitch, a running track, tennis and basketball courts, IT labs and libraries for both junior and senior school pupils.
The school was founded in 1970 by Elizabeth and Thomas Shortell, American philhellenes, who sought to create a school based in Athens which would enable youth to have access to quality education that would adequately prepare them for top-class universities in Europe and North America.
Now, the school offers a blended curriculum, following both British and international standards, as well as Greek.
Academics
65 per cent of GCSE results are grades 7–9.
Average IB score is 36.0.
School Profile
Founded in 1970, Campion has a long track record of academic excellence. We consistently achieve high results in IGCSE and IB examinations (36 average points in 2024, with 67 per cent scoring 35 or higher), paving the way for our graduates to gain placements at prestigious universities in the UK, EU and North America. Our dedicated, well-qualified teaching staff, recruited from respected universities worldwide, participate in ongoing professional development to ensure the highest quality instruction. Small class sizes (approximately 20 students, and even smaller in the EYFS and IB Diploma Programme) allow for personalised attention and maximise student potential.
Nurturing Community
Campion fosters a friendly and caring atmosphere where students thrive. Our school is built on strong moral values, encouraging students to develop their character and become responsible global citizens.
A Rich Educational Experience
Beyond academics, students can explore their passions through a diverse array of extra-curricular activities, including sports, drama, MUN, forensics and music.
Ideal Location and Facilities
Our green and secure campus in Pallini provides an ideal setting for learning and growth. The easily accessible location in north-east Attica ensures a convenient commute for families.
Our Founding Aims
Campion’s mission is rooted in three core principles:
To provide academic excellence for the English-speaking community in Athens.
To cultivate a wholesome, values-based environment that nurtures character development and responsible citizenship.
To foster an understanding and appreciation for Greek culture and ideals.
With approximately 700 students and a balanced two-form entry in Junior School and three teaching groups in Senior
School, Campion offers a close-knit community feel while providing a world-class education.
University and college destinations
The majority of students at Campion continue their education in the UK, including at Oxford, while other students go on to study at leading universities in America, including MIT and Ivy League school Brown University.
Head teacher
Michael Henderson, headmaster at Campion since 2021, previously served as head of seniors and head of PE at the school.
Admissions
Campion requires applicants to submit an application form along with a copy of recent school reports. For entry into the early years and junior schools, students are invited to an interview with the head of school. For those applying to the senior school, admission includes sitting an English exam (if their native language is not English), and also a mathematics, vocabulary and non-verbal abilities exam. Students can be admitted at any point in the school year – depending upon availability of spaces – though priority is given to international families.
