Spear’s Review

Located on the picturesque Zugerberg mountain, the Institut Montana Zugerberg is committed to creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all students to thrive. This is reflected in all aspects of the school’s organisation, from its purpose-built labs and classrooms to the varied co-curricular programme that offers pupils a chance to find their own path and explore it fully.

With only 380 students and an average class size of 10, the Swiss school is equipped to dedicate an impressive amount of resources to every child and instil a strong sense of community and belonging.

Institut Montana is home to students from 55 different nationalities, who can choose to follow the bilingual Swiss curriculum or international programmes that lead to IGCSEs and the IB or a high-school diploma.

Academics

In 2025, the average IB score was 31.2, and for students who took IGCSEs, 30 per cent scored A* or A.

Head teacher

Franziska Welti is the director of education, care and boarding at Institut Montana Zugerberg. She works closely with the director of campus operations, Marco Pletscher, and the director of business operations, Athanasios Theotokatos.

University and college destinations

Graduates receive acceptances to universities across the world. While many choose to pursue higher education in Switzerland, others opt to study in America and the UK.

Admissions

According to the school, the admissions process is holistic, and every applicant is reviewed beyond their academic achievements. Interested applicants are encouraged to visit the campus for a trial day or arrange a virtual meeting. As part of the process, the school uses cognitive ability tests and language exams to help determine a student’s academic pathway, and in some cases requires students attend an interview.
