School Profile
Bangkok Patana School occupies a distinctive position within Asia’s international education landscape. Established in 1957, it is Thailand’s oldest British international school and has long been associated with academic excellence, stability and a quietly confident global outlook. Operating as a not‑for‑profit institution, the school reinvests in its people, campus and programmes, ensuring a consistently high standard of education across generations of families. Set on an expansive, green campus, Bangkok Patana offers a seamless educational journey from early years through to age 18. The curriculum follows the English National Curriculum, leading to IGCSEs and culminating in the International Baccalaureate diploma programme / career-related programme – an academically demanding pathway that supports entry to leading universities worldwide.

Beyond academics, Bangkok Patana is defined by the richness of its wider school experience. Purpose-built sports, arts and science facilities allow students to pursue excellence across disciplines, while a strong pastoral framework places wellbeing, character and personal responsibility at the heart of school life. Global citizenship is woven into the curriculum, reflecting the school’s diverse international community and its commitment to developing principled, outward-looking young adults.

Accredited by the Council of International Schools and recognised as an IB World School, Bangkok Patana combines British educational heritage with an international sensibility suited to globally mobile families. With its long history, scale and reputation, the school remains a reference point for British international education in Southeast Asia – valued not only for academic outcomes, but for the sense of belonging and continuity it offers to families living and working in Bangkok.

Head teacher
Chris Sammons has been Bangkok Patana’s head of school since 2023, but his experience with education goes back almost 30 years. Before moving to Bangkok, he served as principal at West Island School in Hong Kong. He has an MA in neuroscience and psychology of mental health from King’s College London, a postgraduate certificate in international studies and a BA in economics and politics.
University and college destinations
According to the school, nearly all students go on to pursue undergraduate degrees at colleges and universities around the world. In recent years students have accepted places at Cambridge and Oxford, and Ivy League schools Brown, Cornell and the University of Pennsylvania.
Admissions
The application process can be completed entirely online and opens around one year in advance. Families can contact the school to arrange an on-site tour of the campus, a Zoom tour or a video chat with an admissions officer.
