Spear’s Review

Tanglin Trust School was founded by Anne Griffith-Jones in 1925 and initially opened with just five pupils.

Celebrating its centenary this year, the school continues to flourish, offering high-quality British-based learning with an international perspective to a student body of 2,850 children representing more than 50 nationalities.

Repeatedly described by UK inspectors as ‘outstanding’, Tanglin is unique among international schools in Singapore by offering A-Levels and the IB diploma in Sixth Form, providing students with an opportunity to choose the educational pathway that best suits them.

Academics

77 per cent of IGCSE results are grades 7–9.

64 per cent of results at A-Level are A* or A.

Average IB score is 39.1, with a 100 per cent pass rate.

School Profile

Established in 1925, Tanglin Trust School is the oldest British international school in Southeast Asia, and celebrates its Centenary this school year. The school provides the English National Curriculum with an international perspective to children from 3 to 18 years in Singapore.

Tanglin is a vibrant co-educational school of 2,850 students representing over 50 nationalities and provides a unique learning environment for children from Nursery right through to Sixth Form. As a not-for-profit school, tuition fees are devoted to the provision of an outstanding education.

As the only school in Singapore to offer dual pathways of A-Levels or the IB Diploma in Sixth Form, all of Tanglin’s Sixth Formers study a programme that is tailored both to the subjects they are passionate about and to the style of learning that most suits them, ensuring they thrive and flourish.

Tanglin has an excellent academic reputation. Students’ examination results consistently surpass Singapore and global averages, with around 96 per cent of graduates typically receiving offers to their first- or second-choice university, which are among the best in the world.

University and college destinations

Tanglin students frequently matriculate at leading universities across the globe. In 2024, students accepted places at both Oxford and Cambridge as well as at Cornell, Dartmouth, Yale and the University of Pennsylvania.

Head teacher

Craig Considine, chief executive officer, was headmaster at Millfield School in the UK for 10 years before joining Tanglin in 2018. He began his career in Australasian independent schools, including Geelong Grammar School and Wanganui Collegiate School in New Zealand, where he was head.

Admissions

Applications can be made up to three years in advance of entry. Tanglin Trust requires prospective applicants to sit assessment and attend interviews depending on the age of the child. Offers are normally made in March in advance of starting in August.
