Spear’s Review

Initially opening with just five students in 1925, the Tanglin Trust School is the oldest British international school in Southeast Asia. Today, it continues to flourish, offering a high-quality, internationally minded education to a student body of 2,850 children representing more than 50 nationalities.

Tanglin is the only independent school in Singapore to offer both A-Levels and the IB diploma in Sixth Form, providing students an opportunity to choose the educational pathway that best suits them. Outside of the classroom, there are over 400 co-curricular activities on offer.

Outdoor education is a strong focus for the school. Junior students can attend residential camps and overseas expeditions designed to encourage independence and curiosity. In Year 9, students participate in the Highlands Programme, a five-week trip to Australia centred around outdoor education and experiential learning.

In 2025:

  • 80 per cent of (I)GCSE results were grades 7-9
  • 63 per cent of A-Level results were A* or A
  • Average IB score was 39.6

School Profile

Established in 1925, Tanglin Trust School is the oldest British international school in Southeast Asia. The school provides the English National Curriculum with an international perspective to children from 3 to 18 years in Singapore. Tanglin is a vibrant, co-educational school of around 2,850 students representing over 50 nationalities, providing a unique learning environment for children from nursery through to Sixth Form. As a not-for-profit school, tuition fees are devoted entirely to the provision of an outstanding education.

Tanglin is the only school in Singapore to offer a dual pathway of A-Levels or the IB diploma at Sixth Form, with a wide array of subject choices on offer.

The school has an excellent academic reputation, with examination results surpassing Singapore and global averages, and around 96 per cent of graduates typically receiving offers to their first- or second-choice university, which are among the best in the world.

At the heart of Tanglin’s holistic approach is its diverse and expansive co-curriculum programme, which across the school year sees 96 per cent of students – from the infant school right through to Sixth Form – participating in over 400 activities.

Tanglin has introduced the Highlands Programme, based at Tanglin Gippsland — the school’s 15-acre campus in Australia. This award-winning five-week residential experience for Year 9 students is now an established part of the Tanglin middle school curriculum.

In In addition, Tanglin offers the Centenary Music Scholarship Programme, which is open to senior students, as well as the Institute at Tanglin – a dedicated forum that promotes excellence, provides thought leadership and fosters meaningful discourse to inspire and challenge student thinking.

Such opportunities provide Tanglin students with a rich and fulfilling school life, centred on the school’s core values of respect, responsibility and purpose.

Head teacher

Craig Considine, chief executive officer, was headmaster at Millfield School in the UK for 10 years before joining Tanglin in 2018. He began his career in Australasian independent schools, including Geelong Grammar School and Wanganui Collegiate School in New Zealand, where he was head.

University and college destinations

Graduates from the class of 2025 secured places at universities worldwide, including nine offers from Oxford or Cambridge and seven from Ivy League institutions.

Admissions

Applications can be made up to three years in advance of entry. Tanglin Trust requires prospective applicants to sit an assessment and attend interviews depending on the age of the child. Offers are normally made in March in advance of starting in August.
