Spear’s Review
Serving Qatar’s increasingly large international community from its Al Wajba campus, Doha College is one of the state’s best-performing schools. Founded in 1980, Doha College is an international school for children between the ages of 3 and 18, following the UK national curriculum. Pupils take A-Levels, with almost 95 per cent of them achieving A* to C grades. It is rated ‘outstanding’ by British Schools Overseas.
Alongside the wide range of exam subjects are a host of co-curricular activities, including fencing, debate, many musical opportunities and, continuing to follow the British model, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
By nurturing both academic and personal growth, Doha College ensures that its students are equipped with the skills and experiences needed to succeed in the future.
Academics
67 per cent of GCSE results are grades 7–9.
54 per cent of results at A-Level are A* or A.
University and college destinations
Doha College graduates frequently gain acceptance to prestigious universities around the world. In the UK, many students attend top institutions such as Oxbridge, Imperial College London and UCL. In the US, graduates have been accepted into Ivy League universities including Harvard, Yale, Columbia and Princeton, and other top schools such as UC Berkeley.
Head teacher
David Tongue, principal of Doha College since 2023, brings a wealth of international educational experience to the school. Before joining Doha College, he held the head post at St George’s British International School in Rome, Brighton College Bangkok and Brighton College Al Ain.
Admissions
Applicants at Doha College take an entrance assessment, which differs by age group. For younger students, the assessment focuses on literacy, numeracy and cognitive abilities. Older students are assessed through cognitive ability tests, with Year 12 and 13 applicants also submitting school reports and undergoing an interview. Within 14 days of the assessment, parents are informed of the outcome. Successful applicants receive an offer, while others may be placed on a waiting list. The school also accommodates students with special educational needs, providing tailored support through its Inclusion team.
