Spear’s Review

Founded in 1958, St George’s British International School Rome is the oldest British international school in Italy, and with close to 100 nationalities represented within the student body, the school is also one of the most international in the world. St George’s is a non-selective school and serves British, international and expatriate communities, giving priority to families who have relocated from overseas. It mixes the UK national curriculum with the IB diploma, with exam results that are on par with leading international schools across Europe.  A-Levels have been reintroduced at the school for the 2025/26 academic year.

The school prides itself on its comprehensive extracurricular programme, which includes team sports, music, drama, art and design. Pupils are encouraged to create and play an active role in student societies, ranging from ‘planet protectors’ and ‘waste warriors’ in the junior school to debate club in the senior school.

      Head teacher

Principal Dr John Knight previously worked at the British School of Brussels for 17 years, including as deputy head teacher and head of secondary. He completed his doctorate in education with a focus on the emotional challenges for high-aspiring students in an international school setting. He has gained the NPQH, a master’s in education and has been made a fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching.
