Spear’s Review
With its roots stretching back to 1868, Lahore’s Aitchison College is one of Pakistan’s finest educational institutions. Its alumni include former prime minister and sportsman Imran Khan, who played cricket at the school as a young boy.
Spread over a 200-acre campus, the school’s grounds include three riding fields, where students can practice showjumping and arena polo, as well as 18 tennis courts, nine cricket grounds and a diving centre. Priding itself in the late 1800s as an educator of ‘princely elites’, the Aitchison College of today provides a vibrant and broad international curriculum.
Academics
Aitchison has been a Cambridge school since 1935 and offers this curriculum in all three schools – junior, prep and senior – and students work towards IGCSE and A-Level exams. It also has its own SAT centre and is affiliated with the American College Board.
University and college destinations
Aitchison boys regularly gain admission to Oxbridge and Russell Group universities as well as Ivy League schools and other prestigious institutions.
Head teacher
Aitchison College welcomed Dr S.M Turab Hussain as principal of the school in 2024. Hussain is an associate professor of economics and a former Old Boy of Aitchison College, where he boarded for eight years.
Admissions
According to the school, Aitchison College admits boys on the basis of academic and general suitability. The application process must be completed before a boy is considered an eligible candidate. Applications may only be made for one of the two enrolment categories (boarding or day) and not both.
