Spear’s Review

One of the premier schools in Sydney, Scots was founded in 1893 to educate ‘well-grounded men of integrity, with a strong sense of identity, values and character’. It has high academic standards and a focus on sport, while the Glengarry outdoor education programme in Year 9 sets students up for a ‘quest for excellence through adventure, curiosity, creativity and growth’.

Scots College is committed to reinventing education to adjust it to an ever-changing world, and puts experiential learning at the centre of its educational programmes.

Academics

In 2024, 39 boys received an ATAR (a number between 0.00 and 99.95 that reflects a student’s position relative to all other students in their age group) over 95.

University and college destinations

Students pursue higher education at Australian universities as well as international schools including Harvard University, University of Oxford, the University of Chicago and the University of California, Berkeley.

Head teacher

Dr Ian Lambert has been principal since 2007. He has previously served as principal of Swan Christian College in Perth, and taught English and history at St Paul’s Anglican School and Emmanuel College in Queensland.

Admissions

According to the school, in most cases, the application process involves a pre-enrolment assessment (Years 5 to 11) and interviews (all students). All families are encouraged to enquire about admissions.
