Spear’s Review

Established in 1882, Brillantmont International School is one of the oldest boarding schools in Switzerland and has been owned by the same family for five generations. This small, personalised and family-focused school in Lausanne makes the most of its location on the shores of Lake Geneva, and students benefit from the city’s educational, cultural and leisure opportunities, as well as the Swiss countryside and nearby ski slopes.

Students work towards IGCSEs and A-Levels; the high school diploma programme is also an option. Its academic programme is internationally recognised, and the small class sizes – averaging nine pupils – allows for the individual needs of each student to be met.

The school’s exam success goes hand-in-hand with a nurturing environment and an inclusive approach to sport, music, art and drama. Pupils can also learn sculpture, photography, digital design, journalism and various musical instruments.

Academics

In 2024, 97 per cent of IGCSE results were A–C.

In 2024, 88 per cent of results at A-Level were A–C.

University and college destinations

Brillantmont students matriculate at some of the top universities globally. Between 2022 and 2024, the majority of graduates attended university in Switzerland and the rest of Europe, with a number also going on to study in the UK and US, including at Ivy League schools Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania and Yale.

Head teacher

In 2019 Anne Frei became head of school, the fifth generation of the founding family to lead Brillantmont.
