Spear’s Review
Jerudong International School (JIS) is accredited as an ‘outstanding’ British international day and boarding school, educating 1,680 students ages 2–18 from 55 different countries. Established in 1997 by the Sultan of Brunei, JIS is a HMC school, recognised as one of the best international schools in Asia.
Situated on a 120-acre campus with state-of-the-art facilities adjacent to beach and rainforest, JIS offers IGCSEs, A-Levels, BTEC and the IB diploma, with subjects taught by experienced, well-qualified and predominantly British teachers. Students also have the opportunity to enjoy a vast co-curricular programme of clubs, sports and arts activities.
Academics
58 per cent of IGCSE results are grades 7–9.
28.1 per cent of results at A-Level are A* or A.
Average IB score is 34.3.
BTEC pass rate is 100 per cent.
Head teacher
Nicholas Sheehan is the principal at JIS. He has been with the school since 2012, starting as a geography teacher and progressing to academic director, assistant principal and principal in 2019.
Admissions
According to the school, entrance assessments vary depending on the age of entry. The applications are reviewed by the head of junior school and head of senior school, who make the final admission decision. Families are encouraged to apply early due to high demand, up to three years in advance for some entry levels.
