Spear’s Review
A longstanding fixture in Dubai’s education landscape and part of the GEMS group of schools, the non-selective Jumeirah College gives even the most academic Dubai schools a run for their money.
Following the UK national curriculum, the ‘high-performance learning’ programme establishes high standards of teaching, along with high expectations of the pupils, preparing them for GCSE examinations, A-Levels, the SATs and ultimately for university. Students are encouraged to participate in enriching co-curricular activities, including Model UN and the World Scholar’s Cup, to test debating skills, formulate arguments and challenge their general knowledge.
With state-of-the-art music rooms, a graphic design suite, a drama studio, an air-conditioned sports hall and a 25m swimming pool complete with an underwater music system, the school encourages students to pursue their interests and enrich their lives alongside their studies.
Academics
In 2025:
- 66 per cent of (I)GCSE results were grades 7-9
- 41 per cent of A-Level results were A* or A
Head teacher
Nicholas Brain joined Jumeirah College as principal in 2023, bringing over 25 years of experience as a teacher, head and school inspector. Prior to moving to Dubai, Brain headed schools in the UK and south Wales, where he steered comprehensive schools out of special measures and into ‘outstanding’ in school reports.
University and college destinations
Jumeirah College graduates are accepted by some of the world’s most prestigious universities. In 2024, destinations included Cambridge and Oxford, and Ivy League schools Brown University and the University of Pennsylvania.
Admissions
Demand for places is very high, and the admissions process is selective as a result. The admissions process includes sitting assessments and providing documentation from previous schools depending on the year group children are applying to.
