Founded in 1894, Wolsey Hall Oxford is one of the longest-established and most respected home study and homeschooling online providers, offering learning across primary, secondary, IGCSE and A-Level subjects to students in more than 120 countries.

Wolsey Hall’s nurturing environment is particularly appealing to pupils who struggle to achieve their potential in a traditional school setting; the flexibility of the curriculum allows children to grow and develop via Wolsey Hall’s online learning platform, with help from a tutoring team. Wolsey Hall is also attractive to mobile families, such as those taking time out to travel extensively on a yacht, for example, or touring musicians who wish their children to continue their education while on the road. Only a stable internet connection is required.

Alumni include Nelson Mandela, who studied for his London University law degree by correspondence with Wolsey Hall while in Robben Island prison.

In 2025:

• 23 per cent of IGCSE results were grades 7-9
• 59 per cent of results at A-Level were A*-C

Head teacher

Principal Gavin McLean joined Wolsey Hall from Hudson Global Scholars, a provider of online and distance learning education, in 2023. He has a long career in international education, including as a publisher for companies including Macmillan.

University and college destinations

With an excellent careers and university advisory service, Wolsey Hall students go on to matriculate at top universities globally, including Oxford and Cambridge.
