Spear’s Review
Founded in 1850 by Reverend Henry Jacobs as a school for early settlers, Christ’s College is an independent Anglican secondary day and boarding school for boys.
Modelled on English public schools, it is among the oldest independent schools in New Zealand; its school motto, bene tradita, bene servanda, translates to ‘good traditions, well maintained’.
Academic excellence is at the heart of a Christ’s College education; however, the school also places a strong emphasis on extracurricular activities, and students are encouraged to take up cultural, musical, sporting and service opportunities that will enable them to excel beyond the classroom. And given the school’s foundation in Christian values, chapel remains an integral part of the school, with all pupils expected to participate.
Academics
59 per cent receive a NCEA Level 2 Excellence Endorsement (2023).
54.1 per cent receive a NCEA Level 3 Excellence Endorsement (2023).

According to the school, more than 90 per cent of graduating students pursue tertiary education, either in New Zealand or overseas, and students have gained places universities including Cambridge, Oxford, Harvard and Stanford.
