Spear’s Review
Mark’s was founded by Mark Birley in 1972 and has attracted illustrious names ever since. Princess Michael of Kent, to name but one, has been a regular at its tables for the past five decades. In recent years, the club has seen everything from the launch of Vivienne Westwood’s autobiography to a celebratory post-election dinner organised by then-prime minister David Cameron.
For those seeking a traditional members’ club with excellent English cuisine and an exclusive membership list, look no further than Mark’s. Membership is £2,000 a year plus a joining fee, but the real difficulty is getting that far in the first place – with a rumoured membership of only 1,500 people, Mark’s takes exclusivity to another level.
The club, closed for refurbishment, is set to reopen in late 2024.
