Spear’s Review
Few clubs have played such a central role in London clubland history as Tramp, the famous Jermyn Street haunt where royalty and rock stars have gathered for decades. Michael Caine, Marlon Brando, Joan Collins, Mick Jagger ... the list goes on and on.
One club insider recalls the time when three James Bonds – Sean Connery, George Lazenby and Roger Moore – were coincidentally all seated for dinner under Tramp’s famous zodiac ceiling at the same time. Now over 50 years old, the club continues to attract a new generation of A-listers, with David Beckham known to take his son Brooklyn for nights out there.
Luca Maggiora, the owner of Tramp and the man behind the club’s multi-million pound renovation, tells Spear’s that he has high hopes for the future of the club. ‘The reason behind wanting to buy Tramp was that I truly believed London didn’t need to have another private members’ club,’ he says. ‘What could I offer that someone else couldn’t?
‘But I knew that there was a place that was more than just a members’ club. There was a place with location, history and members’ base – and with a 4am licence, which you don’t get in Mayfair anymore. Tramp was that place for me.’
