Spear’s Review
‘Over the years, we’ve found that private clients are no longer offered a personal service that respects their needs and wishes, and they don’t want to be tethered to large-scale financial institutions that seem a little faceless,’ says Simon Melling, CEO of wealth management firm Vermeer Partners.
Vermeer therefore has built a business based on a partnership model – a return to a structure whereby clients have a trusted adviser with skin in the game. ‘It’s the best way to foster a long-term partnership in these times,’ he says.
Melling oversees the day-to-day running of the business and prides himself on being ‘incredibly hands on’, including taking part in the weekly partners’ meeting where investment ideas are debated. ‘One of our greatest assets is the mix of ages we have in the partnership, which means we can not only ensure continuity of service but also a wealth of different perspectives, which inspires creativity and drives innovation,’ he explains.
