Spear’s Review
Many people consider Piet Oudolf to be the world’s leading garden designer. His portfolio includes New York’s acclaimed High Line, the Lurie Garden at Millennium Park in Chicago and the glasshouse borders at RHS Garden Wisley in Surrey.
Oudolf is regarded as the standard bearer for the New Perennial movement, which advocates naturalistic, plant-driven designs that mimic or take inspiration from nature. He explained: ‘I learned from nature and was able to translate this into plant combinations that make a garden look a little bit wilder, more spontaneous.’
Oudolf’s latest book, At Work (2023), provides an insight into his creative mind and design process by exploring a collection of his high-profile and lesser-known gardens.
