Since 2011, Nicky Dunne has been running bookseller Heywood Hill, which covers two floors of a Georgian townhouse on London’s Curzon Street.

It takes a large number of library commissions, including subject-specific libraries in private homes, hotels and businesses worldwide. Clients find the firm via word-of-mouth, as well as positive publicity, ‘because of the quality and charm of our services’, he told Spear’s. 

‘Extraordinarily interesting people from around the world somehow find their way to our little shop,’ he added.

People are amazed at the care and passion that Heywood’s booksellers bring. ‘Our subscribers love that we get to know them individually, and the intense interest that we bring to getting it right is tangible,’ said Dunne, whose ‘Year in Books’ subscription service also delights readers in over 50 countries.
