With more than 40 years’ experience in car restoration, Lance McCormack started out in 1976 as a Rolls-Royce apprentice in a traditional coach builder’s factory. In 1990, he founded Romance of Rust, his very own car restoration business, offering a one-stop shop to a loyal client base.

When Spear’s last caught up with him, McCormack was busy restoring a green and gold Rolls-Royce for Harrods, fitting a new set of rear lights as we spoke. Other clients have their vehicles prepared for concourses, sale or just enjoyment. He also prepares independent reports on the condition of cars restored elsewhere. McCormack is a font of stories of beautiful machines and their owners, so any visit to his workshop is always a pleasure.
