‘We’ve really set out how we work as a trusted adviser to trusted advisers,’ says Justin Mason, founder of Mason Valuation Consultants. Based in Mayfair, the firm focuses solely on the ‘most prestigious’ homes in prime central London and beyond, and places independence at the heart of its proposition. 

Mason, who spent more than 10 years at Knight Frank, understands London’s golden postcodes better than most. ‘The property profession in central London cannot operate on any other way than on a bedrock of trust,’ he tells Spear’s. ‘Advice [in this industry] needs to be as robust as possible, but in order to give that advice, it needs to be built upon robust facts and metrics.’

It’s a principle that is guiding Mason as he leads his firm towards a new direction. ‘Rather than set ourselves out as a valuation practice, we’re now setting ourselves as a valuation consultancy. We’re not competing with buying agents or estate agents. We’re giving advice as non-participants, and we’re wholly independent.’

A fellow of RICS with a long career that includes a decade with Knight Frank, his aim is to help his clients and their advisers manage the value of their homes and investments, providing the professional support to ensure that wealth is not eroded due to unforeseen events or due to a lack of insight into the strengths and weaknesses of the property itself.

Justin prepares reports for acquisition, wealth planning, taxation (ATED, CGT and inheritance), development appraisal, matrimonial purposes and litigation. An expert witness, too, he regularly presents evidence at High Court level.
