‘We are storytellers, and objects tell stories,’ Johnny Messum says. The founder and director of Messums Wiltshire – established in 2015 – developed a passion for sculpting at an early age and then went on to study art at Edinburgh. 

He began Messums Wiltshire with the intention of creating a cultural hub where appreciators of art could intermingle, enjoy fine dining and buy quality artwork. The gallery primarily displays Contemporary art and considers itself ‘a platform for creative expression across artistic genre and a meeting point of minds to explore how art as a language is made, interpreted, resolved and shared’. 

Messum’s clients include artists, artist’s estates, institutions and collectors. But he also believes in making art more open and accessible to those who are not familiar with the art world. He has previously said: ‘Within the art world, we have to remember that art really is for everyone. After all, we are a civilisation founded on our ability to create with our hands.’
