Spear’s Review
Dewey Atkins of Lake & Co attributes his longevity and success in the London super prime property market to his ability to generate sustainable profits while remaining aligned to strong, ethical principles.
His exclusive practice – he might only take five clients in a busy year – relies entirely on recommendations, having earned his clients’ trust through strong project management skills and consistent returns on investment.
‘General market forecasts are unreliable, but I can tell you the value of a particular project within 5 per cent,’ he told Spear’s. Having ascertained what a client is trying to achieve, rather than simply what kind of property they are looking to buy, sell or build, Atkins manages the entire process until the keys are handed over.
Adviser Profile
Dewey Atkins is the Managing Director and co-founder of Panacea Global and the London-based Lake & Co, a private family office looking after the assets and requirements of UHNWs based in the UK and overseas.
Born and educated in the UK, Atkins began his property career in 2003 before co-founding Lake & Co in 2009. Lake & Co is a Mayfair-based property private office specialising in the acquisition, development, and asset and property management of prime residential and commercial property, either as main residence or as a part of a balanced portfolio on behalf of its private UHNW clients.
The firm’s main focus is within the London boroughs of Kensington and Chelsea, and Westminster, although its work extends beyond these areas to the home counties and country estates.
Dewey says: ‘As the Managing Director of Lake & Co there is no “typical day”. Lake & Co is a truly client-led advisory, so each day is very different and highly varied, from confirming viability, modelling and conceptual advice on investment strategies, to selection and assembly of deal specific advisers for planning, tax and legal efficiencies, or taking a brief for a purchase or disposal and how best to value-engineer a process with a specific client and their goals in mind.
‘The correct planning of the client journey on the type of assets or projects we work on can save months or years of time and millions of pounds. It could also be more development focused, where we would provide the same unique assembly of best-in-class advisers for each step of the journey to ensure a coherent delivery strategy, adhering to budgetary and time constraints across all deliverables, allowing our clients to focus on the more creative and rewarding elements of design for their projects.’
