Drawing on more than 30 years of experience as a defamation and privacy lawyer, Hamlins partner Christopher Hutchings tells Spear’s that the firm’s media disputes department has gone from strength to strength. 

Hutchings continues to build on the momentum of winning the privacy case of Ali v Channel 5 in 2018 – a landmark judgement – which he says ‘set a precedent for privacy cases, particularly those arising from TV broadcasts and will put Hamlins at the front of such legal complaints’.

He says that the department is known for its expertise in dealing with phone-hacking cases, but its underlying focus remains libel, privacy and copyright disputes. ‘Our overarching principle, no matter the issue, is to try to seek a successful outcome.’
