Helen Miller

Spear’s Review

Helen Miller is the director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS), the research unit that makes sense of the numbers revealed at every UK budget statement.

Influential in informing public opinion on the economic effects and social impact of the UK government’s policy decisions, the IFS covers topics such as taxation, public spending and the behaviour of individual businesses, to name but a few.

Miller joined the IFS as a research economist in 2007, steadily climbing the ladder to the top job during her 18 years at the organisation, all while honing her financial expertise. She has provided commentary on the direction of the UK economy for Sky News, and has advocated for cutting investment in other countries to prioritise spending on science, technology and research infrastructure in Britain.

At a time when the UK’s finances appear to be in a constant struggle and businesses have to explore ever-changing landscapes amid international political tension, her expert insight could prove to be more important than ever.
