Howard Lutnick
Spear’s Review
Howard Lutnick is the 41st secretary of commerce in the US government, making him one of the biggest faces of US President Donald Trump’s economic agenda. Lutnick leads the Department of Commerce, which is responsible for trade, the US economy and technology.
He was CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald, a global financial services firm and investment bank, from 1991 to his appointment in the government in early 2025. Since then, Lutnick has applied his extensive Wall Street experience to Trump’s numerous trade negotiations with the UK, China and the UAE, as well as to the president’s tariffs strategy.
Aside from global economics, the billionaire has advised and worked with the government on investments into companies such as Intel, where it holds a 10 per cent stake, and US Steel, where Washington holds a veto power over its key corporate decisions.
Under a year into Trump’s presidency, Lutnick has already assisted on numerous world-changing economic decisions. The question is: how will he fare for the next two years of the MAGA movement?
