John Goddard
Spear’s Review
After an ‘extensive market search’, John Goddard has come out on top to succeed Andrew McGlone as CEO of Quilter Cheviot.
The ‘HSBC veteran’ joined the discretionary fund manager in September 2025, bringing with him almost three decades of experience, as well as ‘a strong track record in driving strategic growth initiatives across multiple businesses and jurisdictions’. Goddard will be responsible for overseeing a firm with £30 billion in assets and over 36,000 clients (as of 30 June 2025).
In March 2025, parent company Quilter Plc announced that it had set aside £76 million in compensation provision after a review by the FCA concluded that a small minority of its clients did not receive the ongoing services they were promised.
In an interview with the Institute of Directors (IoD), Goddard argued that UK board directors ‘need a recognised qualification to ensure they have the relevant skills and understand their responsibilities’. As he looks to achieve chartered director status with the IoD, his commitment to accountability may just be what the firm is looking for to rebuild client trust.
