Spear's Review

Alex Day is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital. Alongside his NHS clinic, Day runs a thriving private practice in cataract and laser eye surgery, as well as implantable contact lens surgery, aiming to maximise his high-profile patients’ independence from glasses.  

Many of Day’s patients come by referral from friends and family, and he is a firm believer in thorough consultations. This helps to put patients’ minds at ease and allows him to understand each patient’s expectations of their treatment. ‘Everyone has different visual requirements,’ he tells Spear’s. ‘It’s about trying to understand what people want.’ 

Alongside his clinical work, Day is an associate professor of ophthalmology at UCL and a leading academic voice on cataracts and lens replacement surgery and the application of new technologies to advance the field.
