Magnus Ström

Magnus Ström has had a passion for design since childhood: ‘I’m Swedish; we have an affinity for architecture … I’ve wanted to be an architect since I was 5 years old.’
After eight years working for award-winning residential designer John Pardey, he founded Ström Architects in 2010 and began specialising in high-end residences.
Ström tells Spear’s he creates homes not based on ‘how many bedrooms [clients] want’ but ‘what they want the house to say about them’. Often in high-powered roles, his clients value the sense of calm he can create in a space – what he calls the ‘je ne sais quoi of buildings’. Using natural materials and innovative construction techniques, he evokes ‘the feeling of entering a sacred space’.
Recent work has led to a focus on wellbeing, as clients are increasingly looking for ‘luxury in spaces, not in objects’.
