‘It was a bit of a baptism by fire – the financial crisis quickly unrolled,’ says the approachable and engaging investment partner Cordelia Bowdery, describing how her career started in 2007 with Killik & Co.

Now at Navera Investment Management (formerly known as Meridiem Investment Management), Bowdery learned ‘an awful lot’ from her beginnings at the Mayfair stockbroker: ‘The worst thing you can do in a financial crisis is bury your head in the sand.’ In tough times for clients, she says, ‘it’s important to pick up the phone. Even if you’re delivering bad news, at least they know what’s going on.’

Bowdery is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and has a degree in philosophy and theology from Oxford: ‘Obviously a fantastic help for a career in finance,’ she laughs.
