Pinsent Masons partner Emily Cox acts for defendants, UHNW individuals and corporate clients on all manner of media, data privacy and, increasingly, social media-related disputes. 

The highly experienced former Magic Circle reputation and privacy lawyer tells Spear’s: ‘A significant risk for UHNWs and HNWs remains the ability for negative messaging to spread apace online.’ In recent years, Cox has dealt with disputes on social media arising from ‘disgruntled former employees’ and from the sharing of instant messages. 

Cox explains that she believes in providing ‘clear and commercial advice, delivering difficult messages when necessary’. That means providing would-be litigants with a realistic assessment of their case right off the bat. ‘Clients need confidence that you will tell them when a case is or is not worth pursuing for legal, financial or tactical reasons, rather than simply what you think they want to hear.’
