Richard Kovalevsky KC

Spear’s Review

‘My individual clients all have one thing in common,’ explains Richard Kovalevsky KC, a partner at Reed Smith since May 2025 who previously worked at Mayfair litigation firm Cohen & Gresser and, prior to that, Stewarts. ‘They seek expert tactical and legal advice to assist them in preventing or dealing with difficult problems.’

Kovalevsky has over 30 years of experience acting for HNWs and corporations in white-collar crime, financial crime and regulatory investigations. What’s noteworthy is the wide range of cases that come across his desk – from internal corporate investigations, business transactions and regulatory enforcement, to corruption, tax, fraud and money laundering.

Clients’ problems have ranged from allegations of misleading the stock exchange (Sir David Jones) to designing tax schemes that are challenged by HMRC (Martin King, director of tech unicorn Ve Interactive), Kovalevsky says, adding that additional clientele include ‘Swiss fiduciaries, entrepreneurs, members of prominent families and politicians’.
