Having cut his teeth offering financial advice to business owners at HSBC for 20 years, Stephen Scutcher set up Trowlock Wealth Management in 2013 and has since built a sizeable book. Clients are typically entrepreneurs but also include FTSE 100 board members. 

The seasoned adviser says he usually has two to three meetings with new clients before recommending any products because he wants to gain a picture of the their long-term objectives. 

‘How can you deliver a product or a solution until you know what they’re trying to achieve?’ says Scutcher, who adds that the wealth manager’s role is ‘a partnership with that client rather than just a relationship’.
