Alan Miller co-founded SCM Direct alongside his wife, Gina, in 2009. It was a product of their ‘desire to improve investor outcomes, challenge complacent investment thinking and respect clients by being honest, ethical and transparent’. 

While the former hedge fund manager uses his 35 years of experience to provide clients with reliable investment advice, he does acknowledge that investing carries with it associated risks. ‘No fund manager has a crystal ball,’ he has said. His solution is, therefore, to ‘focus on minimising cost and risk to maximise returns’. 

As a demonstration of trust in the approach they offer to clients, both Miller and his wife invest their own money across SCM’s direct portfolios ‘on exactly the same terms and fees as clients’.
